Metal-on-metal hip implant devices were created to eliminate the failure of these implant devices from overuse. However, the design and construction of hip implant devices has raised multiple concerns about other complications. Stryker Rejuvenate, DePuy ASR, and other hip implant devices have been recalled or discontinued due to a high rate of failure and numerous reports of patients who experienced muscle or bone damage and other injuries.
Metal-on-metal hip replacement devices have been associated with the following injuries:
- Dislocation
- Bone fracture
- Metal blood poisoning
- Swelling
- Device loosening
- Tissue damage from metal debris
- Hip pain
- Nerve and muscle damage
